Do I Need A Breast Lift With My Implants?

Considering breast surgery and not sure if you need a Breast Lift with your Breast Augmentation? Implants can enhance the shape and size of your breasts but, in most cases, can’t correct sag on their own. In this blog, we discuss all you need to know.
Quick Facts About Breast Surgery
If you’re looking to transform your breasts with Plastic Surgery, chances are you’ve come across the procedure known as Breast Augmentation. More commonly known as a Boob Job with Implants, this procedure is designed to:
Restore breast volume
Increase breast size
Enhance breast projection
Define breast shape
Clients who opt for Breast Augmentation typically want fuller, more shapely breasts. While they may have minor issues with asymmetry (one breast smaller than the other), Breast Augmentation clients typically don’t suffer from ptosis (sagging), nor do they require excess tissue be removed, as a Breast Lift client would.
What Implants Can & Can’t Do
Breast implants are well known for their ability to boost the breast contour. In fact, Breast Augmentation, with implants, is one of our most sought-after procedures.
Implants can vary in a number of ways, so no one Breast Augmentation procedure is ever the same. Breast implants can be:
Smooth or textured
Round or teardrop shaped
Low, Moderate or High profile
120cc to 1000cc in size
There are also several brands of implants to consider, and 3 different placement methods (sub-muscular, sub-glandular, and dual plane).
With all this variety, it would seem that there’s nothing breast implants can’t do, however there is one common client concern they cannot address—ptosis (sagging). In cases where a client is experiencing breast sag, a Breast Lift is required to restore the breasts to a more elevated position.
Why Breast Lift?
A Breast Lift works to create a more perky breast contour. The procedure is best suited to clients with:
Sagging breast tissue
Nipple asymmetry
Enlarged areolas
One of the key ways to tell if you need a Breast Lift is by looking at the position of your nipple. Nipples that point downwards typically indicate sagging. There are 3 degrees of sagging (minor, moderate, and severe) and, once classified, Plastic Surgeons can determine the best techniques to use to elevate the breasts.
Benefits of a Combined Breast Augmentation & Breast Lift
Like a Breast Augmentation, a Breast Lift performed on its own can have limitations. For example, while the position and size of the nipples and areolas can be raised, the breast size, shape, and volume (of ‘fullness’) cannot be restored.
For truly superior and long-lasting breast surgery results, a combined Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift procedure is often required.
Together, the two procedures increase volume, adjust the shape, address asymmetries, increase the size, and restore the breasts to a perkier, more youthful position.
Essentially, the combined approach offers the ultimate in breast surgery with results designed to fill you with the beauty of self-confidence.
Are Breast Augmentations & Breast Lifts Always Combined?
In most cases, when a client requires a breast enhancement with implants and a sag correction, Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift can be performed at the same time. This means one set of hospital and anaesthetist fees, one amount of time spent under general anaesthetic, and one recovery time. If ptosis (sagging) is considered extremely severe, however, Plastic Surgeons may need to conduct two surgeries—the first to remove excess tissue and lift the breasts and the second to place the implants. This is a rare occurrence and will be discussed with you during your initial consultations with your Plastic Surgeon.
