9 Tips to Manage Your Personal Belongings During Medical Travel
Here are our 9 top tips to manage your personal belongings whilst travelling and prevent theft:
Pack minimalistically – light clothing, nothing valuable and no jewellery (except for a watch). Never flaunt your valuables whilst travelling – it may make you a target.
If you plan to take any electronic devices, make a list, as any loss of these items will need to be reported to your travel insurance provider when making a claim.
Make sure your handbag is secure and closed at all times. Never leave it out of your line of sight.
Use a secure Travel Money Belt for your passport, cards, cash and flight ticket whilst at the airport and on public transport.
Use a small wallet and choose only minimal cards to take with you (eg. Credit and Debit card/s).
Do not travel with large denominations of cash. You will have access in most places to withdraw cash as you need.
Use reputable enclosed bank ATMs and avoid using street ATMs where possible. Hospitals, hotel lobby’s and shopping centres have reputable ATMs.
Ensure that you always use the safe provided in our associated hotels and hospitals to secure your passport, extra cash and other valuable items. If there is no safe, then leave your belongings with a person you trust while in surgery.
Always be aware of your surroundings. Keep your eye on people and things happening around you.
To ensure a positive all-round surgery journey experience, always follow the good practices mentioned above.
